Struggle can be defined as strive to achieve or attain something in the face of difficulty. Some may disagree that struggle is acceptable. It may be acceptable in some ways like what ever bad comes out of life it is a teaching or a blessing. Others consider that struggle is unfavorable. Much fact-finding has been direct on this topic. This essay will argue that argue. Struggle, specifically Poverty and Racism, is multidimensional and has implications that can harm us.
Struggles are multidimensional. We see this in Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez. For example one of the struggles Panchito experiences is being undocumented. This struggle causes him to live in fear and be deported. Some examples of the text that provides evidence of his fear is when he says, "I lived in constant fear for ten long years, from the time I was four until I was fourteen years old." Another example of fear is from Panchito as he got older his fear of being deported grew bigger. The last example is that Panchito doesn’t have documents so if border patrol find out he will have to be sent back to Mexico. Breaking Through has many examples of poverty.
Along the lines of struggle being multidimensional can also examine its implications. Once again using Breaking Through struggles with poverty. Poverty affects Panchito’s education, living conditions, child labor, and health. There are examples from the book that shows the implications of poverty. One example is he gets nervous for going back to school because he doesn’t know what his friends will say to him. This shows he has a fear of going back to school because when he got taken out of school all of his classmates saw him so he is afraid he would have things said about him. Poverty causes him to live alone with his brother. This shows he has courage and has to be strong to be able to go back to school and go back to Santa Maria with out his parents with them a in another place. They had to go to work at the fields again and work every day after school and on weekends. This means he got caught and since his parents aren’t with them he needs the money. Just because of poverty he has health issues, he was under weight because he doesn’t get the nutrition he needs. This means he is not healthy and too skinny, because he doesn’t have enough food and nutrition he needs because his family is low on money. Panchito and his brother are living with deep poverty.
Although Breaking Through isn’t the only book or source you can find that has something to do with poverty. Implications of poverty are found in many different sources. Poverty affects education; according to, “11 Facts About Education and Poverty in America,” Children living in poverty have a higher number of absenteeism or leave school all together because they are more likely to have to work or care for family members. This means that some older kids in the family don’t get to have a great education, because they care for the younger ones and work to be able to eat and live in a house. Also to Human rights, poor people have lower collage completion rates, which confirms prior intuition. This means that poor people don’t have enough money for a collage tuition. According to Ask.com, The lack of support at home will decrease chances of education success. This means that at home no one is there to help with school situations because parents are always out working, and have little money to pay for school payments. These examples are few of the many examples that is affected by poverty.
In addition to education, the implications of poverty on health can also be found in other sources. One piece of evidence is stated in Think Progress, “Poverty affects health because of the lack of money.” Think Progress also states, “an example of how poverty affects health is people with low income cant buy healthy food.” Think progress finally states, “Most people that don’t have health care is because they cant afford it.” Implications of poverty on health can be found in lots of sources.
Although poverty greatly affects health, treatment is equally affected. The Washington post has some great examples on how poverty affects treatment. To begin with they state that some people treat people in poverty like they’re alcoholics and drug abusers. “People that are not living in poverty look at people that are living in poverty as if they spend the little money they own on drugs, beer, pills, ect.” Think progress states that, “people living in poverty are most likely to not just do drugs, but smoke.” The way people are treated affects the way the will act, if people call someone a drug abuser then they will start doing drugs.
As much as poverty really affects everything, personally I think that living conditions is the worst/ most affected element. Personally when someone asks me what comes to the top to your head when, “how Poverty affects living conditions.” I again personally think that living is having to sleep in a small cabin and keep leaving to town to town and living in these small cabins because you work on a farm. Other than my opinion research states that, “seventy-one percent of the expenditures of the families of poor individuals is for food, shelter, utilities, and apparel. They also state, “compared to 46 percent for families of the non-poor.” This last statement the say is strong, “for those in poor, single-parent families, the share spent on these necessities is 80 percent. To conclude, living conditions personally is the strongest affected by poverty, but every on has there own opinion so living conditions is strongly affected.
In conclusion, all of these can affect us badly its all because of poverty. In this essay poverty was shown to affect us in all of these methods. Poverty is shown to affect Education, Health, Living conditions and Treatment. Although this essay shows how poverty affects these harshly, Poverty can affect you on many other ways. So finally poverty can be good for some people but really bad to others.
Racism is a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the human race. Which is just a belief about someone in a different race. In this part of the essay I will talk about how racism is shown. For example the Jacky Robinson story. Jacky isn’t then only example though, there are more examples of how poverty is shown. So racism is bad or good? No one knows but they do know is racism is bad in most parts.
Racism first of all, is shown in a book called, “Breaking through” here they are Mexican and are living with struggle. One example deals with Panchito, he gets a girlfriend and finally gets to meet the family, the mom found out that he was Mexican and didn’t allow her daughter to talk to him any more. This shows that most people don’t accept each other because of the religion. Another example deals with his brother, his brother also had a girlfriend who went out with him without permission and got in trouble for it. This means that her dad found out he was Mexican and didn’t allow her to go out with him. In conclusion racism was shown in the book, “Breaking Through.”
Racism is also shown in the movie Jacky Robinson, where people are being racist to Jacky. One example is Jacky’s wife, there was a bathroom that said “Whites only.” This means that they didn’t want a different race in the same bathroom as them. Another example in the beginning Jacky’s couch didn’t accept him util getting yelled at to help him. This shows that just because of the color of his skin they don’t accept him. The same thing is shown in one game, Jacky was yelled at and the guy said, “No niggers in the field.” This shows that people don’t accept each other on occasions either.
In Contrast to all I have shared, Kelly Mcfonial provides an opposing perspective. Kelly stated that, “Stress wasn’t killing you it’s the thoughts about it that kill you.” She means that thinking will power your heart and brain to continue healthy. She also states that , “Stress itself is a good thing for you.” With this she means that its okay to feel stressed out. On my side, I don’t agree! The reason is that stress makes you have headaches and that causes people to take medication and to much medication can hurt you.
In conclusion, struggle is bad for you with consequences. Like racism being racist to someone isn’t good its like bullying and what comes out of bullying death. Why death because people get tired and stressed from everything something happens and it concludes with death. On this hand there is no death. Kelly’s strong efforts in her speech aren’t strong enough to convince someone.
