There are many examples of text from our media that parallel the book “The Giver.” Some of these examples are articles about Edward Snowden, U.S incarceration rates, Arizonas ban on books, and song such as Muse. All of these texts have strong evidence of how the giver society parallels our society.
The Edward Snowden situation parallel the giver society. In both the giver and the Edward Snowden situation they talk about surveillance. In the giver they watch everyone and listen to them, just like the edward snowden situation, “The U.s goernment has been collecting phone records.” Both of these situations talk about secrets. In the giver, “The Giver gives memories (secrets) to Jonas.” Just like Edward Snowden sharing what the U.S government is doing to its people. Both have whisleblowers in the snowden situation, Snowden tells another state what the United States is doing. In the giver Jonas tells the baby about how the society is. The article about the Edward Snowden situation parllels the Giver.
In the article about Incarerating the population of the U.S. parallels the Giver. Both of these societys have a system of control. The U.S controls its people for example “ 716 per 100,000 people are in prison.” In the Giver all of there people dont see colors, and can only have one boy and one girl in the family, lastly, in the Giver you can not choose your spouse. The article about incarcerating the population paralle;s the Giver.
The article “Arizonas banned Mexican American books,” parallels the Giver. Both of these societys ban books. In the articles situation they ban books from Mexican Americans. In the giver they ban books from its people exept for its important people like the reciever of memory. The article about banning books parallels the Giver.
The song, “Harrison Bergeron,” parallels the Giver in many ways. In the song it talks about, “Do you know what your society is doing to you?” In the Giver basiclly Jonas is finding about what his society is doing like having sameness. When they say, “ The price we pay to make our lives this way?” it refers to the Giver because they are wasting there time just making pills and giving it to the people. The song “Harrison Bergeron,” parallels the Giver in many different ways.
These are some texts that parallel the Giver from our media. The Edward Snowden situation, U.S. Incarceration rates, Arizonas Ban on books, and songs such as muse all parallel the Givers society. Overall, the Giver society and our society are very similar.
